painting by Arlene Greenspan

Arlene was born and raised in New York City.  She is primarily self-taught and has studied with many artists and participated in many workshops in New York City, Vermont, Philadelphia, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.  She is adept at both watercolor and oil painting.
Arlene’s inner city experiences have been the inspiration of many of her paintings.  Her paintings accent the hues of the city and its vibrant energy.  She has traveled widely through the United States and Europe and has a love of beaches, woods and meadows and many of her works reflect these interests.  Arlene uses a combination of bold colors to highlight the natural beauty and intensity of her landscapes and cityscapes and has developed a distinct style of depicting dancers and their environment.  She uses brilliant explosive colors and interesting shadows to create her enchanting paintings.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My fascination with the world, as demonstrated by the movement of water, the vastness of the sky, the shadows of the city and the grace and concentration of the dancer is what draws me to my art.  By creating a painting that captures the mood, color and feeling of the beauty I see in the world, I am able to find myself as an artist and a person.  My goal is to translate what I see onto paper or canvas so that the viewer will be transformed by the experience.
